WASHINGTON: Despite a public revelation that government officials issued a letter outlining the demands without authorization, Harvard said on Saturday that the Trump administration was “doubling down” on the university’s extensive demands.
According to unnamed sources familiar with the situation, New reported late Friday that the government lawyers’ letter, which Harvard received on April 11, was delivered before top authorities in US President Donald Trump’s administration could review it or give the go-ahead for its dissemination.
Three days after receiving that letter, Harvard refused a number of demands, claiming that doing so would mean ceding to the government authority over admissions, hiring, and instruction.
