WARSAW: As nations get ready for difficult negotiations on the EU’s next climate objective, Finland supports a European Union target to decrease the bloc’s net greenhouse gas emissions 90% by 2040, the country’s state secretary for climate told Reuters.
A proposal from the European Commission about the 27-nation bloc’s 2040 climate target is awaited by EU member states.
Last month, the Commission had intended to propose a 90% net emissions decrease, but it postponed the proposal due to opposition from certain nations and parliamentarians who need to accept the aim and are worried about how it would affect Europe’s faltering sectors.
In an interview, Mika Nykänen stated, “We think it’s a good target,” referring to the 90% commitment that has also been suggested by the EU’s independent advisers.
