BEIJING: According to sources cited by a Beijing-backed publication on Thursday, US officials under President Donald Trump’s administration have contacted their Chinese counterparts for discussions on massive tariffs that have severely damaged markets and global supply chains.
Beijing has retaliated with new 125% penalties on U.S. imports after the United States imposed punishing tariffs on numerous Chinese goods in April that have since increased to 145%.
Additionally, Yuyuan Tantian, a Chinese publication affiliated with CCTV, cited sources to report on Thursday that Washington was “proactively” contacting China through “multiple channels” for tariff negotiations.
“From a negotiation standpoint, the US is currently the more anxious party,” the news and analysis source stated on Weibo, a platform similar to X.
