According to Senator Waqar Mehdi, Kamal Azfar, an 87-year-old veteran PPP leader and former governor of Sindh, died in Karachi on Monday following a protracted illness.
Senator Mehdi stated that details regarding the location and time of his funeral prayers will be revealed later. “Funeral prayers for Azfar will probably be decided after his children arrive from overseas,” he said.
When former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto appointed Azfar governor of Sindh in 1995, he gave up his Senate seat. He worked closely with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP.
Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, conveyed his deep sadness and grief over Azfar’s passing and promised that his political contributions would never be forgotten.
