ISLAMABAD: The Child Marriage Restriction Bill, 2025, which sets the legal marriage age at 18, was signed into law by President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday.
The new law states that if one or both of the girls and boys are younger than 18, no Nikah khuwan will be permitted to perform the solemnization of the marriage. Any Nikah khuwan found in violation of this rule could be fined Rs100,000 and imprisoned for up to a year.
Furthermore, a man over the age of 18 who marries a minor could face a harsh prison sentence of up to three years.
