KARACHI: Following fruitful talks with SSP Malir, residents protesting extended power shortages called off their 16-hour sit-in near Quaidabad, restoring the National Highway to traffic on Saturday.
As temperatures topped 39°C, the protest started late Friday night when locals blocked the highway in protest of sudden and prolonged power outages that had disrupted daily life during the height of summer.
Both commuters and cars, including those carrying sacrifice animals, were left trapped for hours as a result of the demonstration’s severe traffic disruption, which included gridlock extending from Quaidabad to Malir Halt.
Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, the interior minister of Sindh, responded by taking prompt notice and giving administrative and law enforcement personnel instructions to handle the matter.
