Six people have been injured and 17 people have died as a result of a rock collapse at a quarry in West Java, and Indonesian officials will continue their search for eight more persons on Sunday, according to search and rescue organization Basarnas.
The agency said in a statement late Saturday that the number, as provided by the relatives of the fatalities, is preliminary.
“Does not meet safety standards for workers” is what West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said on Instagram about the hazardous location of Friday’s fall in Cirebon.
In a statement, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said it would look into what caused the collapse and carry out an evaluation to find any possible more landslides.
