PATNA: According to officials on Friday, lightning strikes during this week’s monsoon storms in eastern India killed at least 33 people and injured scores more.
According to a statement from the state disaster management department, the most of the victims in Bihar were farmers and laborers who were working outside during the severe storms that struck between Wednesday and Thursday.
Parts of the state are expected to see more lightning and heavy rain.
According to Vijay Kumar Mandal, minister of disaster management for Bihar state, officials in districts that are at risk have been instructed to “create awareness to take precautionary steps following an alert on lightning,” as reported by AFP.
