According to an emergency official who spoke to Reuters on Saturday, flooding in Nigeria’s Niger State this week has killed 151 people and displaced thousands more.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency’s head of information, Ibrahim Audu Hussaini, gave the updated death toll, which was earlier stated at 117 on Friday.
He went on to say that more than 3,000 individuals had been relocated and that more than 500 houses had been affected.
On Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning, the central Niger State village of Mokwa saw flooding. Rescuers were still searching for bodies in the muck and debris days later.
