NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come under heavy assault from India’s main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, for remaining silent in the face of US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he was instrumental in negotiating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
According to a video compilation posted on X by the Congress Kerala chapter, Trump claims in at least nine different places on different platforms that his involvement caused the two nuclear-armed neighbors to stop fighting.
Congress criticized Modi’s silence over the “claims” in the tweet, writing, “The US President reiterated this on every conceivable international platform.” Modi was also deemed “not fit to continue in his post anymore” by the opposition party.
