BOGOTA: According to his wife and government and party officials, Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe, a prospective presidential candidate, was critically injured during a campaign event in Bogota on Saturday and was battling for his life in the hospital.
President Gustavo Petro ordered an investigation into the identity of the person who ordered the attack after the Colombian Attorney General’s Office announced in a statement that “a minor under 15 years of age was arrested carrying a Glock pistol-type firearm (9mm)”.
The 39-year-old senator is a member of the opposition conservative Democratic Center party, which was established by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, and is vying for the presidency in 2026. Neither of the two individuals is related.
