In Ahmedabad, fatalities ranged from a prominent politician to a juvenile tea vendor, and grieving relatives are lamenting the loss of at least 279 people killed in an Indian passenger jet crash headed for London.
Despite the jet carrying 242 passengers and crew, one man miraculously escaped Thursday afternoon’s catastrophic accident.
However, the only account of escape from the jet was that of the lone British person.
Anil Patel, whose son and daughter-in-law had surprised him with a visit from Britain, said, “I saw my child for the first time in two years, it was a great time.”
He said, “And now, there is nothing,” as he started to cry. “Whatever the gods wanted has happened.”
