Members of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, which is chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwala, voiced grave concerns at a contentious meeting on Tuesday regarding the federal budget’s planned taxes, particularly those on solar panels, and the leasing of planes to PIA.
The General Sales Tax (GST) implementation in the combined tribal territories (FATA and PATA) was a significant source of discontent. The contradictory approach was fiercely challenged by Senator Mohsin Aziz, who said, “If tax is to be imposed on FATA, then it should not be withdrawn.”
He chastised the administration for its lack of commitment, pointing out that a previous committee led by Rana Sanaullah had suggested a 12% tax, which was then cut to 10% without justification.
