According to official sources who spoke to media on Monday, the federal administration is thinking of postponing the implementation of pension reforms for members of the armed services by a year due to mounting pressure and technical issues brought up by the Ministry of Defense.
The federal cabinet approved the contributing pension scheme for military personnel to begin on July 1, 2025, but it may now be delayed until July 2026, according to Ministry of Finance sources. Concerns over the distinct tenure and service structure of members of the armed forces, which are different from those of civilian government employees, prompted the action.
As part of larger measures to lessen the government’s pension cost, the contributory pension system was introduced for new civilian employees on July 1, 2024.
