Just hours before Sardaar Ji 3’s international release on Friday, Canadian-Indian actress Neeru Bajwa reportedly unfollowed her co-star Hania Aamir on Instagram and deleted all of the movie’s promotional material, highlighting the ongoing strain on cross-border tensions that hinder cultural exchanges.
The move follows mounting criticism in India on the use of a Pakistani actress in the horror-comedy in Punjabi, which also features well-known singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh.
Industry watchers speculate that Bajwa’s decision seems to be a reaction to growing internet criticism and pressure from right-wing elements in India, even though neither Bajwa nor Aamir have released a public statement.
