In Punjab, heavy rains have killed 54 people in the last 24 hours, bringing the nation’s total monsoon death toll to 178 since the rains started in late June. The rains have also caused severe disruptions to life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with numerous areas reporting flash floods, overflowing drains, and submerged neighborhoods.
After hours of nonstop rain in Rawalpindi, drain water spilled and washed cars away. While the water level in Nullah Lai alarmingly increased, low-lying regions were submerged.
As a precaution, authorities warned Katarian and Gawalmandi to evacuate.
