BERLIN: As Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s administration attempts to convey a tough stance on immigration, Germany announced on Friday that it has sent 81 Afghan men convicted of crimes back to their country under Taliban control.
A plane carrying the men departed Friday morning for Afghanistan, according to the interior ministry, which also stated that all of the deportees were subject to expulsion orders and had been found guilty by the criminal justice system.
Alexander Dobrindt, the interior minister of the top economy in Europe, announced that the government was moving forward with a “policy change” while holding a migration meeting with numerous European peers.
“In the future, deportations to Afghanistan must be conducted safely. Serious offenders do not have the right to live in our nation.
