According to reports, an Ohio couple has broken a new world record by giving birth to a child from an embryo that was frozen for more than 30 years.
Thaddeus Daniel Pierce was born on Saturday to Lindsey, 35, and Tim Pierce, 34. According to Ms. Pierce, her family believed “it’s like something from a sci-fi movie” (MIT Technology Review).
It is thought to be the longest time an embryo has been frozen and still produced a healthy live delivery. A set of twins born in 2022 from frozen embryos in 1992 held the previous record.
After seven years of trying to conceive, the Pierces chose to adopt the 1994 IVF embryo created by 62-year-old Linda Archerd and her then-husband.
