PESHAWAR: According to the UN, Pakistan has begun deporting officially recognized Afghan refugees before the deadline for their departure, potentially leading to the expulsion of over a million Afghans.
The central government told the provinces a day earlier that more than 1.3 million Afghan refugees with Proof of Registration (PoR) cards will be officially repatriated and deported starting on September 1.
According to a ministry announcement, Afghan citizens who possess PoR cards will immediately start their voluntary return. The formal repatriation process for the remaining PoR holders is scheduled to start on September 1.
Repatriation of unlawful foreign nationals, including those who possess Afghan Citizen Cards (ACCs), is another statement made by the government.
