India’s abrupt release of extra cusecs into the Sutlej River has caused floods in Ganda Singh Wala, Kasur, destroying thousands of acres of agriculture and burying villages in the latest act of water aggression.
As villagers and their cattle are being moved to safer land, rescue operations have begun, officials said.
Following a breach on the Sahu Ka–Chishtian road, flooding in Burewala swept across the Sahu Ka area and neighboring rural areas, submerging fields and shutting off hundreds of villages.
As their staple crops—rice, sesame, and cotton—were now under water, dozens of rural households in Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar watched helplessly as their means of subsistence were washed away.
