On Wednesday, Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys appealed in the Court of Appeals in Albany, New York, to overturn his 2020 rape conviction.
Arthur Aidala, Weinstein’s attorney, begged the judge, saying, “Our client did not get a fair trial.”
After being found guilty in February 2020 of forcing oral sex on TV and film production assistant Mimi Haley in 2006 and third-degree raping hairstylist Jessica Mann in 2013, the disgraced movie tycoon was sentenced to 23 years in jail.
Harvey Weinstein’s ‘me too’ appeal accusing him of being a convict is a ‘despairing’ last-ditch attempt. ADVANCED
After the court appearance, Weinstein’s counsel, Juda Engelmayer, told News Digital that “the judges on the appeals court seemed concerned with the introduction of the Sandoval ruling that essentially precluded Harvey Weinstein from taking the stand in his defense.”
“The way Juror No. 11 presented the information from her research and book also worried them. We hope that the right conclusion—that Harvey was not given a fair trial—will be reached as a result of our arguments.”
