After serving time in prison from 2003 to December 2020, Andrew Malkinson was eventually freed.
After fresh DNA evidence last year suggested that another individual may have been involved in the crime, his charges were withdrawn.
After the completion of a report from an independent assessment into the conduct of the matter by Chris Henley KC, the CCRC has now extended an unconditional apology to Mr. Malkinson.
In response, however, Mr. Malkinson stated that CCRC chairman Helen Pitcher OBE should have apologized after he was cleared last summer.
“I am still fighting for accountability for what was done to me, and the CCRC’s delay in apologizing to me has greatly added to the mental turmoil I am going through,” Mr. Malkinson stated.
I was in so much anguish because of the CCRC’s shortcomings. Even the police immediately expressed regret. Helen Pitcher seems to be expressing regret only now that the CCRC has come to light and the last door has closed behind them.
