The suspect, known only as Pawel K, was purportedly trying to get in touch with Russians who were actively engaged in the conflict in Ukraine and was preparing to provide agents with extensive security details regarding Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport located in the southeast of Poland.
Prosecutors said that the man’s work would assist Russian special services in organizing a potential assassination of Mr. Zelenskyy.
He was taken into custody on Wednesday in Poland, according to a statement from the national prosecutor’s office.
The statement further said that he might spend up to eight years in prison if found guilty.
Poland has been a steadfast ally of Mr. Zelenskyy and the neighboring Ukraine.
