With his incarceration, Julius Kivimäki has ended an 11-year cybercrime binge that began when, at the age of 13, he became well-known among a network of wild teenage hacker gangs.
Tiina’s phone rang as she was taking a break from the traditional Saturday night sauna in Finland.
She received an email from an unknown source that managed to obtain her name, social security number, and other personal information.
“At first, I was struck by how polite and nice the tone was,” she recalled.
The letter began, “Dear Mrs. Parikka,” before revealing that they had acquired her personal data from a psychotherapy facility where she was a client. The emailer apologized almost entirely, explaining that they were getting in touch with her personally because the firm was neglecting the fact that personal information had been compromised.
