After Mamdani established a clear lead, former Governor Andrew Cuomo conceded Tuesday night, allowing the 33-year-old democratic socialist to pull off a significant upset.
As the fans applauded, Mamdani declared, “Tonight, we made history.” “I’m going to be your Democratic candidate for New York City mayor.”

Mamdani had 43.5% of the vote with 93% of the votes counted, while Cuomo was in second place with 36.4%. Final results could take days due to New York City’s ranked-choice voting method, although Mamdani is anticipated to gain from second-choice votes, especially from leftist Brad Lander supporters.
