When pro-Palestinian demonstrators attempted to replace the Stars and Stripes with a Palestinian flag last week, a group of fraternity members at the University of North Carolina (UNC) grabbed the attention of the country by holding up the American flag.
The fraternity brothers held up the fallen American flag until it could be repaired in a demonstration that many saw as a brave act of patriotism, after weathering over an hour of screaming, slurs, and flying debris. To host a celebration for the participating fraternities, a GoFundMe was launched, and by the time donations closed, it had raised over half a million dollars.
Will, a member of the Phi Delta Theta chapter at UNC, told News that he spent time planning last Tuesday’s demonstration.
