To provide an accurate picture of the deployment and failure of the Fujitsu-made software, an investigation into defective Horizon software is underway, along with the prosecution of 700 sub-postmasters for theft and fraudulent accounting.
Many more sub-postmasters accrued huge debts, lost their homes, livelihoods, and reputations in addition to the erroneous convictions, as they took on heavy debt to cover Horizon’s miscalculated shortages at their Post Office branches.
After the drama Mr. Bates v. The Post Office aired in January, the topic has drawn further attention.
Mark Davies, the former group communications and corporate affairs director of the Post Office, claimed in an email submitted to the committee on Tuesday that he was involved in a conspiracy and cover-up.
