In less than a month, the Indiana burbot fishing record has been surpassed three times. An 11.4-pound burbot was captured by Porter County resident Phillip Duracz on Tuesday, January 10, in Lake Michigan, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The 32-year-old state record for burbots was broken on December 30, 2022, when Scott Skafar, an angler from Valparaiso, Indiana, caught two burbots weighing 10.2 pounds and almost 9.7 pounds. This body of water is where the record-breaking catch was made.The state’s record-breaking burbot from 1990 weighed seven pounds and eleven ounces, according to records from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.”Recently warm weather and light winds have given anglers fantastic fishing opportunities.”
