In the most violent election campaign in Mexican history, the western state of Guerrero is the most dangerous area to vote.
Cinthia Juarez understands this more than most.
Moises “Moy” Juarez Abarca, a boyhood friend of hers, was one of the first to be assassinated while campaigning. Mr. Abarca, a nationally recognized LGBT rights campaigner, was a local government candidate for the opposition PRD party before being kidnapped by armed men.
His remains was later discovered thrown in a burial grave alongside 16 others.
“With my friend Moy, I’ve been involved in political activism for over twenty years. “This has been the most violent campaign we’ve ever seen in the state of Guerrero and Acapulco,” adds Cinthia.
