Merseyside Police reported that they had detained a “53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area” within two hours of a car plowing into spectators during Monday night’s Liverpool FC triumph parade.
The speed at which police shared the man’s ethnicity and nationality was startling.
The ruling demonstrates that lessons have already been learned from the Southport attacks from last summer, when the same police disclosed few information about the 17-year-old they were holding, leaving a gap that was filled by internet rumors and misinformation.
In England and Wales, police departments typically only disclose the suspect’s age and the location of their arrest.
