Cari Champion and Bob Costas made an appearance on the news “NewsNight With Abby Phillip” on Monday night. The three talked about the drama surrounding Caitlin Clark in the WNBA.
Particularly, one of Costas’ remarks circulated on social media on Tuesday. Costas claimed that because it was a “black-on-black incident,” Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas’ foul against Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese didn’t receive as much media attention as Chennedy Carter’s foul against Caitlin Clark.
“There was an incident recently where Alyssa Thomas, who happens to be African-American, grabbed Angel Reese by the throat and threw her to the floor,” Costas stated.
It’s not simply that Caitlin Clark is a celebrity that makes that topic less talked about.
It’s because the incidence is black on black. You lack the dynamic that allows individuals to make comments while also exaggerating and shaping the plot.”
Here’s the video of Costas that went viral as well as the film of the May 25 foul that he’s referring to against Angel Reese. (App users, please click this link).
The clip above elicited the greatest response during the seven-minute portion featuring Costas, Phillip, and Champion.
Cari Champion expressed her frustration with the notion that other WNBA players are “jealous” of Caitlin Clark throughout the entire interview.
