The CEO of McDonald’s has disclosed that the controversy surrounding the Israel-Hamas war has had a “meaningful business impact” on the company. Chris Kempczinski stated that the massive fast-food business had suffered in Middle Eastern countries as well as “some outside the region” as a result of demands for a boycott. This follows a controversy in October when McDonald’s Israel declared it had provided thousands of complimentary meals to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combatants. Opponents of Israel’s military action in Gaza reacted angrily to the move, with some calling for a boycott of products. Several McDonald’s restaurants in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Turkey also released statements criticizing the decision.
