Before this weekend’s British Grand Prix, the McLaren driver stated in an exclusive interview with Sport, “We want to race hard, and we both know that.”
However, we most certainly don’t want things to finish the way they did. We wish to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
The Red Bull Ring race on Sunday ended with a collision between Norris and Verstappen with six circuits remaining. They made contact after several dangerous laps of racing in which they occasionally went off course as Verstappen surged across on Norris, who was attempting a move.
After the race, Norris chastised Verstappen, calling the Red Bull driver “a little bit desperate” and changing his line in the braking zone—against the F1 rules due to the inherent risks.
Speaking in the McLaren plant a few days after the incident, Norris claims the two have communicated and will do so once again for a longer, more in-depth discussion to clear the air.
We texted each other, Norris explains. Naturally, we’re going to talk because I believe it to be the right thing to do. Other than that, though, our conversations and how things work are private.
