After beginning the back nine with five straight pars, he went on to birdie two of the last four holes and added another eagle to his card. His final score was 59, 12 under par.
As they concluded their opening rounds, he was four strokes ahead of Harry Hall and five ahead of Kevin Chappell and Hayden Buckley. A number of golfers were still in the middle of their rounds.
