“Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) will provide their services to ensure a peaceful Muharram celebration,” a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated in a statement.
The statement claims that in response to the demands of several districts, the Punjabi government has requested the deployment of 150 Army and Rangers contingents.
“The home department received a letter from the Punjab police asking for the deployment of 81 squads of Rangers and 69 Army contingents throughout Punjab to help with security during Muharram,” the statement continued.
Depending on the requirements of each district, requests for assistance from the security forces were made from the first to the 12th of Muharram.
The Pakistan Army received a letter from the Home Department requesting assistance.
