Tori Towey, a Boyle, County Roscommon native who works as a cabin crew member for an airline in the United Arab Emirates, claims she attempted suicide after reportedly being attacked and suffering serious bruising and other injuries.
The 28-year-old, who managed to live, was brought to a police station where she was informed that she will be prosecuted for alcohol abuse and attempted suicide. She is unable to travel back to Ireland since her passport has been blocked.
According to Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald, “she’s under incredible stress” today in the Irish parliament. “Tori is a female from Roscommon.
In order to guarantee Ms. Towey’s return to Ireland, Ms. McDonald implored Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris to “urgently intervene” in the issue.
While acknowledging that he was not entirely up to date on the matter, Mr. Harris informed the Irish parliament that he would be pleased to collaborate with Ms. McDonald and others “to intervene and see how we can support an Irish citizen in what sounds to be, based on what you tell me, the most appalling circumstances”.
“Aware of the case and is providing consular assistance,” is what the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said to the News.
