NUSHKI/QUETTA: Unknown assailants opened fire on a police constable who was securing an anti-polio squad in Nushki, Balochistan, on Tuesday, resulting in the officer’s martyrdom and another’s injuries.
Authorities briefly halted the district’s ongoing polio immunization campaign in response to the occurrence.
In an effort to eradicate polio in Pakistan, the Pakistan Polio Program formally launched its third National Immunization Days (NIDs) campaign on Monday.
The goal of the week-long program is to vaccinate more than 45 million children under five.
