In an effort to lead the nation toward prosperity, former interior minister Gohar Ejaz emphasized on Wednesday how crucial it is to reexamine the agreements with independent power producers (IPP).
Ejaz addressed X and stated: “We are aware that the IPP sector is receiving capacity payments. Despite operating at less than 25% of their potential, coal plants are paid over Rs692 billion in full capacity costs. With outrageous per-unit costs, wind operations generate less than 50% of the total revenue of Rs. 175 billion.”
“RLNG-based gas power plants are operating below 50 percent and receiving Rs180 billion per year, while solar operations get Rs110 billion with high per unit rates,” he stated. Please compare the per-unit prices paid to each of the 106 IPPs for the electricity generated with the actual contracts, stated Ejaz. Once they realize the problems brought on by the incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption, I’m sure that no honorable person who loves this country will defend these IPP contracts.”
