The world’s first glider pilots, Sebastian Kawa and Sebastian Kot Lampart, have successfully flown over the peak of the second-highest mountain.
Despite strong winds and tight flight regulations in Pakistan, this was a first-ever trip over K2, according to Karar Haidri, Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, demonstrating their extraordinary skill and perseverance.
The organizers claim that Sebastian Kawa and Sebastian Lampart had to drive their Ash-25 glider plane all the way from Poland to Pakistan in a trailer with the help of their pals. After completing the necessary formalities, the pilots were granted permission by the Shigar district administration to fly across the mountains of the Karakoram range.During a test flight on Friday, the pilots reached 4,600 meters from Skardu airfield. Sebastian Kawa and Sebastian Lampart became the first people to glider-skier over the summit of K2 on Saturday at 4:50 p.m. The two of them were in a Schleicher ASH 25 glider, which had two seats and a small emergency engine. They were hauled aloft by a car using a rope, taking off from Skardu airport and flying over the Karakoram and around K2.
