Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, informed Christians on Friday that if they support him in November, “you don’t have to vote again in four years.” You won’t have to cast a ballot because we’ll have things fixed so well.”
In an election campaign where his Democratic rivals accuse him of endangering democracy, and following his attempt to reverse his 2020 loss to President Joe Biden—an endeavor that resulted in the deadly uprising at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021—it was unclear what the former president intended to convey by his statements.
Trump was giving a speech in West Palm Beach, Florida, at a gathering put on by the conservative organization Turning Point Action.Donald Trump stated: “Christians, get out and vote, just this time.”You’ll be spared from doing it. I promise that in four more years everything will be resolved and you, my lovely Christians, won’t have to cast a ballot.”
“I love you Christians,” he continued. As a Christian, I am. I adore you; please leave the house and cast your ballot. You won’t have to vote again in four years because we’ll have everything done so well,” declared Trump.
When pressed to elaborate on Trump’s comments, campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung did not explicitly answer them.
