Khadijah Shah, an activist for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared that she will renounce her US citizenship along with accepting the party’s candidacy for reserved seats.
It was not an easy decision to give up my US citizenship, which provides freedom, security, and opportunity. But Pakistan is my birthplace, my home, and the nation in which I have established my existence. I’m not giving up on it or my people,” Shah wrote on Tuesday on Instagram.
The PTI supporter, a fashion designer by trade, is involved in many court proceedings regarding her purported role in the May 9 riots. These riots were started following the arrest of party founder Imran Khan in a fraud case, which resulted in the closure of military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ), in Lahore.
