ISLAMABAD: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) has been issued a show-cause notice by the National Electric Regulatory Authority (Nepra) for their lack of attention to the earthing of high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) poles.
According to an official document, the distribution firm of Faisalabad would face legal prosecution from the electricity regulator for neglecting to install earthing on poles, which may have resulted in deadly incidents.
Fesco promised to follow regulations to prevent power leaks and implement safety procedures, but Nepra said the power company’s answers were “far away from ground realities.”
There were five electrocution accidents in 2020–21, six in 2021–22, and four in 2023 as a result of the absence of safety requirements. The authorities discovered inconsistencies in Fesco’s explanations about the steel structures used to ground electrical poles.
“has become ineffective as a result of the sites’ deterioration and changing moisture contents over time.”
Nepra also made the decision to provide the Disco a show-cause notice in the meantime since it had not received a suitable response to its inquiries.
