The “Saltburn” actor, Barry Keoghan, has a tale to share about a terrifying disease that feeds on flesh and almost kills him. In an interview with GQ that was published on Tuesday, Keoghan discussed his struggle with necrotizing fasciitis, a rare bacterial infection that eats away at the skin, muscles, nerves, fat, and blood vessels surrounding an infected wound. Before the 2022 Oscar-nominated picture “The Banshees of Inisherin” started filming, Keoghan fell ill, and he stated that amputating the affected area “was on the table.” He remembered inquiring of the physicians whether he would die, to which they had said, “Well, we don’t know.” The actor did not say where or how he contracted the infection. One of the germs that can cause what’s well recognized.
