Irish police detained Enoch Burke on Monday at Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath after he disobeyed a court order telling him to keep away.
After Burke was hauled before the High Court in Dublin on Monday night, a judge declared that he was in violation of the court order in place and that he should be sent back to Mountjoy Prison.
Burke claimed that the court had violated his religious freedom, specifically his view that there are two genders. “This judge has been treated like a mockery of justice,” he said.
The Burke family members in attendance erupted in disagreement in response to the ruling.
In August 2022, Wilson’s Hospital School suspended Enoch Burke following a public altercation with the principal. Using the new name and the “they” pronoun of a student who wanted to change gender had been met with resistance from the very religious teacher.
Burke was suspended, but he still went to the school. A judge issued an order barring Burke from entering Wilson’s Hospital.
