At Boohoo’s flagship plant in Leicester, on Thurmaston Lane, the original labels were removed from plain T-shirts and hoodies last year.
The media revealed on Tuesday that the company is thinking about closing the location.
According to Boohoo, the inaccurate labeling was caused by a misreading of the labeling guidelines.
When Thurmaston Lane first opened its doors two years ago, the retailer positioned it as a centre of excellence for UK manufacturing, providing end-to-end clothing manufacture within the country.
Between January and October 2023, up to one in 250 of Boohoo’s global supply of clothing was impacted by the mislabelling that occurred at the facility.
The media thinks that this might amount to hundreds of thousands of improperly labelled clothing. The company will not, however, give exact numbers.
Boohoo says it was a singular incident.
