Agents discovered the alleged gunman, identified by US media as Ryan Routh, in the woods of Trump’s golf club on Sunday afternoon in Florida. The Republican front-runner was playing from a distance of several hundred meters.
The guy was shot by agents; he ran away and was apprehended later.
In an interview with the news, a former agent stated that the Secret Service was having a “good day,” but questioned whether Trump was getting adequate security in light of a previous attempt on his life that occurred roughly two months prior.
The director of the Secret Service resigned as a result of the occurrence.
Secret Service officials were combing the Trump International Golf Club ahead of the former president as part of routine operations when they discovered the gunman.
One of the rifles’ barrels was visible poking through the course’s hedgerow. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Trump was roughly 300–500 yards (275–460 meters) away from the gunman at the time.
Whether the gunman fired a shot is yet unknown.
The sheriff continued, saying that an agent “immediately engaged” with the gunman, who then ran away. “The Secret Service did exactly what should have been done.”
When they saw the suspect, agents opened fire multiple times. He ran away, leaving his gun and other belongings behind, and was subsequently seen driving away after a witness gave it.
