On Monday, a lady from Australia who was found guilty of killing three elderly relatives of her estranged husband by feeding them poisonous mushrooms received one of the heaviest prison sentences ever imposed on a woman in the nation: at least 33 years.
Erin Patterson handed her in-laws individual plates of beef Wellington laced with death cap mushrooms, but the presiding judge stated she exhibited no sympathy for them.
In July, Patterson was convicted of the Leongatha mushroom murders, which have been widely publicized and involve the deaths of her mother-in-law, Gail Patterson, father-in-law, Donald Patterson, and Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson.
The 50-year-old was also convicted by a jury of Ian Wilkinson’s attempted murder.
