In September of last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that there were solid claims that the Indian government was connected to the June 2023 assassination of Canadian national Hardeep Singh Nijjar in his nation.
The two countries have had tense relations ever since India called the claim “absurd” and ordered Canada to withdraw 41 of its 62 diplomats stationed there.
According to a senior Canadian government official, authorities have found proof of continuous violent criminal conduct connected to India’s government, leading to the expulsion of six Indian diplomats, including High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma.
Although it did not provide specifics, India has stated that it ordered the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats, including Mr. Verma, after he and others were identified as “persons of interest” in an investigation.
Yesterday, the Indian foreign ministry received a diplomatic letter from Canada stating that the Indian high commissioner and other diplomats are “persons of interest” in a topic related to an investigation in that country, the ministry said in a statement.
