Typhoon Bualoi ripped across Vietnam’s coastline Monday, causing at least 13 fatalities and 46 injuries, according to the government. The storm’s accompanying rains and strong winds also caused road flooding, power outages, and damage to residences.
After making landfall early on Monday, Bualoi weakened into a depression that was headed for Laos. The national weather agency reported that when it proceeded along the northern central coast, it threw up waves as high as eight meters (26 feet).
According to the government’s disaster management office, fishermen whose boats were washed away off the province of Quang Tri are among the missing, while another fishing vessel lost communication.
According to Van Quynh of Nghe An province, “I stayed awake the entire night, fearing the door would be pulled off by strong winds.”
