Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar described the launch of Pakistan’s first Chromebook assembly line as a “defining moment” for the nation’s digital transformation. Speaking at the “Building the Digital Future, Together” event, he emphasized that local production will make digital tools more affordable and accessible, especially for the education sector.
Dar highlighted the collaboration between the Government of Pakistan and Google, which includes setting up a local presence in the country and training 100,000 developers in AI skills nationwide. He said this initiative will strengthen the local tech ecosystem, support startups, create jobs, and boost technology exports.
The deputy prime minister assured that Pakistan is rapidly progressing toward its goal of becoming a significant player on the global stage. He also mentioned the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to attract investment, streamline business processes, and provide a transparent, innovation-friendly regulatory environment.
On the economic front, Dar said the government is committed to stabilizing the economy, implementing fair tax structures, and positioning Pakistan for G20 membership. Despite $130 billion in debt, he noted that the country holds valuable natural resources worth $6–10 trillion, including minerals, stones, and hydrocarbons.
Dar also referenced his recent participation in the Coordination Meeting of Arab-Islamic Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, noting ongoing efforts to implement the Gaza peace agreement, signed last month in the presence of President Trump.
